The Liebster Blogging Award
Well, look at this. I turn my back for just a second to read other peoples blogs and what happens? One of my favorite bloggers (Mommy Needs a Pinot) gives my blog the Liebster Award. How cool is that?
This is especially exciting for me because I read Mommy Needs a Pinot religiously, and if you are a harried parent who needs a little humor just to get through your exhausting, atypcial day then I think you need to read it, too. Any “About” section of a blog that starts out with “My life is ridiculous….I am a magnet for crazy, both good and bad,” has my undivided attention. (What? You mean I’m NOT the only one?)
Thank you so much to “Ms. Pinot” for giving me this award AND for reading my blog. I’m both flattered and honored to return the favor of a much-needed belly laugh.
WHAT THE HECK IS A LIEBSTER AND IS IT GOOD DRENCHED IN BUTTER?
Uh, not quite.
Liebster is German for dearest or beloved, but it can also mean favorite. Therefore, the idea of the Liebster Award is to bring attention to blogs with less than 200 followers, which definitely describes me. SO PLEASE people get a wiggle on and read, comment, like, share, retweet, forward, and follow my blog. And if you already do any or all that, then obviously you are a hip and happening individual, and I commend you on your good taste.
Now let’s get down to brass tacks. What does it mean to win The Liebster Award? Is there cash involved? Trophies? Fame? Fortune? A guest spot on the next installment of Jackass The Movie?
Negatory, my friends. But with victory comes responsibility. Here are the rules for anyone who wins the Liebster Award:
• Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
• Give your top 5 picks for the award and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
• Post the award on your blog.
• Bask in the love from the most supportive people on the blogosphere – other bloggers.
• And best of all have fun and spread the karma.
So in the name of getting to the good stuff, here are my picks to receive the coveted Liebster Award.
Hahabuda: If you like to laugh at the crazy world we live in, then you’ll love Hahabuda. From zombies to the weirdest chicken band to bad Valentine’s Day gifts, Hahabuda takes you on a cultural rollercoaster ride that will make you go “WTF?” yet leave you wanting more. I love this guy’s perspective and humor.
Becoming Cliché: This mom of three is an educator at a zoo, keeps snakes at home and loves to thrift store shop. That alone makes me want to have coffee with her. Her posts range from celebrating Tortoise Day to returning her Kindle Fire because Amazon won’t accept cash. And any post that starts out “Each Wednesday, I spend my day happily up to my elbows in tortoise turds…” makes me want to read more.
Daddy.of.5: Yes, this guy really has five kids, all under the age of 10. I’m impressed he and his wife get out of bed everyday, let alone take charge of a brood that outnumbers the adults 2.5 to 1. With observations of his kids like, “They seem in awe that they have to wear pants” I can safely say this guy is a better person than I am. (P.S. I’m overwhelmed with two!)
The Waiting: Having given birth to two boys who are now teenagers, I’m getting a kick out of reading Emily’s blog chronicling her current pregnancy, which is her first. Even if you’ve never been pregnant, her observations (“To the H&R Block tax consultant: I don’t care to discuss my girth with you. It’s weird enough that I’m discussing with you, a complete stranger, exactly how much money we made last year.”) will make you smile.
Stay Abnormal: Here is a person who gave up the corporate world (and probably a lucrative paycheck) at age 45 to open Rich’s Backyard Birds. If that’s abnormal, count me in. This blog is simple, observational humor at it’s best, with post titles like “Being Honest Can Get You Hospitalized” and “Coin Toss Personalities.” Although “People Watching on a Sunday” made me feel like I was a fly on the wall at the coffee shop in the popular TV show Seinfeld.
So there you have it, some great reading material to enhance your life. Now get busy and start turning them, and me, in to virtual blogosphere rock stars by LIKING, sharing, and following our blogs! (Oh, and have a great week.)

(Okay, well maybe I am that dorky, but at least I’ll be easier to find on the Web.)
Stacy Dymalski is a stand-up comic who gave up the glamorous life of coach travel, smokey comedy clubs, and heckling drunks for the glamourous life of raising kids (who happen to be bigger hecklers than the drunks). This blog is her new stage.
